Are you Camera Shy? How to look relaxed and natural in photos.

One of the things we were always told as parents was to enjoy the children as they will grow so fast. To be honest, until your first born finally flies the nest you don’t have much opportunity to really understand the advice you have been given! Those growing up years were always so busy from babies needing you constantly (and sleepless nights) to toddlers and young children needing your help and constant attention and still not enough sleep! Then its kids’ parties, clubs, afterschool activities, the teenage years (stressful! – yet more lack of sleep from worrying!) and then young adults and seeing them start their way in the world. Then, as your ...

Are you Camera Shy? How to look relaxed and natural in photos.

If you went to the opticians for your eye test – sat through the questions and the eye exam whilst they change all the complicated discs and you read the letters as best you can from the board. Answering to your best knowledge although not understanding many of the technical terms they use. Finish the session and they say all done that will be £x please. You are presented with a piece of paper – your prescription and they say goodbye.  You leave – knowing what prescription you need but not with any glasses ordered.  You go online to a store where you put in the prescription and then you are faced with lots of questions.  What shape of ...

Are you Camera Shy? How to look relaxed and natural in photos.

Can you still fit in your wedding dress? On my part sadly no but I still love it very much – the dress that made me feel so special on our wonderful day. A few years ago, I started offering a ‘Rock the Frock’ shoot for any brides (or grooms!) that would love to get all dressed up again. It can be recreating your look on the actual big day or as most of my brides have done maybe something different? A theme they would have loved to have for the big day but for whatever reason it did not happen.  Some of the ones chosen so far have been a Vintage shoot, Breakfast at Tiffany’s and even gothic! We choose a venue and look for props to make the look ...

Are you Camera Shy? How to look relaxed and natural in photos.

It makes me proud that all three of our children have friends from childhood that they have been close to for a long time – even as they each grow up and change. I am sure you have your friends that you can just relax with and be yourself? The ones as we get older you may not see as often as you would like, as life gets busy, but that when you do it’s like you saw them yesterday.  It’s also so lovely to have shared experiences that you can laugh about from previously. Our eldest is an example as he has had two friends from when he was only months old when they met at nursery. All three live in Essex but not close in geography and they have not been to ...

How to photograph a tin of Heinz Baked beans – different ways of capturing the same thing

Are you Camera Shy? How to look relaxed and natural in photos.

Give 4 professional fulltime photographers the same task – “ Rules are to create one image, it is to include a tin of Heinz baked beans but you can capture it as you wish”When teaching my photography students, I have always told them that it should be possible to capture most things in an interesting way but that you have to think about your viewpoint, backdrop etc. I normally follow up with that I believe if you give 10 people the same thing to photograph, they will each see it in a different way, and you will end up with ten likely different images.  So, to put it to the test I recently contacted three other local photographers to see if they wanted to ...
